This thumb lead, two-finger banjo workshop is for intermediate and advanced students who want to hone their jamming skills. I frequently talk to students who have played through all sorts of tunes and can nail them while snuggled up in a favorite recliner at home. However, they go to their first jam and realize there is much more to playing this music than memorizing some arrangements from class or sight-reading a piece of tablature downloaded from Banjo Hangout.
We will discuss:
- finding jam joy at your current level
- outlining skeletal melodies
- following the fiddle
- emphasizing chords
- "rememberizing" dusty, forgotten tunes
This workshop is intentionally scheduled on the same day as the Louisville Folk School old-time jam at Hadley Pottery (1570 Story Ave). Plan to grab some lunch after the workshop ends and meet me at the jam from 1-3 pm to test your newly expanded jamming toolkit.
This is an adult workshop open to students aged 13 and up.
